Fine morning, aircraft active. We move at 2.0 pm & march to Camp 112, very cold but nice march. Arrive about 4.30 pm, get settled down & turn in about 9.10 pm. Woke about 12.20 am by hostile aircraft dropping bombs. 4 dropped quickly on our camp, Capt. BEAMISH & Pte HUNT wounded, several Seaforths killed & wounded, & 1 R.I. Fus wounded. No more sleep that night.

23 Jan Trenches
Fine morning, much clearer than it has been for some days. Aircraft very active, fine fight, German brought down in flames on our side only 4 shots fired at it, another forced down in their lines. We get relieved at night by 4th Suff [Suffolks]. HdQtrs leave about 8.0 pm, just get clear when Fritz starts his games, no casualties, march to Camp 18 where we arrive very tired about 1.30 am. Turn in about 2.0 am. Very cold & sharp frost.
22 Jan Trenches
Fine morning very cold still & frosty. Hostile aircraft active but do no damage, some shelling on both sides, fairly quiet. Rations up early & I turn in about 11.0 pm. Capt MONTGOMERY visits HQ in morning.
21 Jan Trenches
Fine morning still frosty, washing feet & dusting with powder ready for tonight. We move HdQrtrs at 4.0 pm to P.C.TERRON & relieve H.B. relief complete about 8.30 pm, but we have no water & communication is bad. Send to D in Dump for water, get back about 2.0 am. Turn in about 2.30 am. Nice dug out & not cold. Fritz put one very near but no damage. 3 Sea [Seaforth Highlanders] killed on relief.
20 Jan Trenches
Fine morning again very cold, work on trenches continue, hostile aircraft again active, but ours come later & drive them back. We should move tonight but it’s cancelled until tomorrow. Very good, no rations early to bed.
19 Jan Trenches
Fine morning, very cold, work on trenches started. BM 11th Bgde killed, shell fire. Hostile aeroplane flew over in afternoon very low, none of ours up. Rations better tonight, finish about 11.30 pm, 2 days rations.
18 Jan Trenches
Fine morning but very cold, we have a look round & general clear up, some shelling but no damage, rather hard up for water. Rations from Bgde dump also tools. Turn in about 2.0 am very tired & done up.
17 Jan CAMP 18
Fine morning but dull, lot of snow during the night & more snow later. French & British tummies have a snow fight. We move to the trenches at 3.30 pm. Very long march & one we shall not forget. French guide meets us at CURLU. We get to beginning of BOYEAU VARY about 7.20 pm & arrive at H Qrs P.C. MADAME about 11.30 pm. Very cold & quite done up, some shelling but no damage. I feel rather ill but manage alright , turn in about 4.0 pm(?) good dug out but very cold.
16 Jan CAMP 111
Fine morning but dull, we have a busy morning preparing to move, which we do at 2.0 pm to No 18 Camp NE of SUZANNE, which we reach about 5.0 pm. Very cold & miserable, I have a decent bed but cold & not much sleep.
