Coys march back to TRONES WOOD & get a hot meal Tea and Stew. After a rest Bttn march back to MANSELL Camp at 8 am, arriving about 11 am. Settle in tents for a rest.

GOC 4^th Div. Visits camp in afternoon, troops nearly all asleep. Wet night.

Capts IRVINE & WATERS die of wounds. Rotten luck all our Captains gone. Bttn relieved at night by 20^th R. Fus. Relief completed 2.0 am. Wet night. Fairly quiet day. Troops all glad to get out.

Very cold morning. Church parade 10.30 am. Fatigue party to draw bombs. Hand in Packs etc. & prepare for Trenches. Camp fire service at night Hd Qrtrs. Parade for Trenches 6.45 pm & move off Bttn follows by Platoons. Arrive Trenches, no casualties.

Fine day, misty morning, Bttn has short parades to keep the men fit. We find 280 men for working parties. 4.0 am return. Aircraft active. Very heavy explosion about 4 pm, surmise armaments dump.

Fine day. Sharp frosty morning. Bttn finds 270 men for working party. No casualties. Sharp frost at night. Return at 1.0 am. I walk to transport. Hear news of Capt. HYDE’s death & get application sent to 2^nd Bttn. Aircraft active.

Very wet all day. Camp in an awful state everyone wet and miserable. Cold all night sharp frost.

Dull nasty morning, heavy mists no good for aircraft. Attack by 11^th Brigade. We find 80 men to assist Field Amb. [Ambulance] Heavy shelling at night.

Fine day but dull. Bttn cleans up & does drill. Brigade finally relieved by 11^th Brigade. Heavy rain at night everything damp and miserable, not much sleep. Some shelling at night. Not much sleep.
