Quiet night. Rations arrived from ARMENTIERES about 2 a.m. Relief carried out by Q.V.R.[Queen Victoria Rifles] & WELCH REGT. in evening without incident and Battalion marched to billets at ARMENTIERES. Sgt. Russell killed (buried in his brother’s grave near Pigeries on Ploegsteert road.) 1 man wounded.
14th March: TRENCHES ST YVES
Quiet day. No shelling. A few grenades fell in “B” Coys trench.. 1 killed. Q.V. Rifles [Queen Victoria Rifles] arrived at 6.15 pm to relieve us, in middle of relief orders arrived cancelling it. 3 Q.V.R. wounded (1 fatal) by grenades.
13th March: LA CRECHE
Battalion relieved 2nd R. DUB FUS [Royal Dublin Fusiliers] in trenches at ST YVES. Orders received that 10th Inf. Bde. is to be relieved on night 14/15th.
12th March: LA CRECHE
Remaining Coy went to Baths. Good progress reported from NEUVE CHAPELLE.
11th March: LA CRECHE
3 Coys [companies] went to baths at PONT NIEPPE. Quiet day.
10th March: LA CRECHE
British Success reported at NEUVE CHAPELLE. Battalion confined to billets to await developments.
9th March: TRENCHES ST YVES
Capt. Tomes & Sgt Jeynes did good sniping today. Quiet day. Our guns fairly active. Relieved by 2nd R. DUBLIN FUS in evening without incident & marched to LA CRECHE.
8th March: TRENCHES -ST YVES
Very cold day with N wind. Our guns did good practice on enemy’s trenches. No casualties.
7th March: TRENCHES- ST YVES
Village shelled at 8am by howitzer. Increased activity with guns and rifle fire. Very little sniping in Evening. 2 killed 2 Platoon 5th Notts & Derby’s relieved the other two in trenches.
6th March: TRENCHES -ST YVES.
Heavy sniping during the night. A few “Little Willies” into “T” trench. No casualties.
