Fine morning but dull. We get orders to move up at night for attack tomorrow. Fairly busy all day. We parade at 11.20pm & move off to Assembly Area.

Fine morning & aircraft active, but rains about 11.0am, fairly heavy gunning. Nice night.

Wet again, everywhere in an awful state. We find some cellars in the village & get a decent shack. Have a nice bath at night & a nice bed.

Wet morning. Zero hour 2.0am. Barrage starts with 5 rounds per minute, then increased at zero + 68 to Barrage time. All objectives taken but a proper rotten day, casualties very slight. About 400 civilians released from Saulzoir, rotten shame to see them. Fritz must be a pig. Rain all day.

Very dull & misty again. Both Artys [Artilleries] active. Fritz dumps a few round us, but no damage. Preparations being made for stunt tomorrow. Rain at night.

Fine but still very dull & misty, prepare for line, pde ready to march 4.30pm. Get up to Bttn HQrs about 8.0pm, rotten time, very heavy shelling, we have 1 man wounded on HdQrs. Relieve ¼ D of W Reg [Duke of Wellingtons Regiment]. Relief complete about 10.0pm. Not much sleep.

Fine but very dull. Bttn [Battalion] baths in the morning in tube. A & B Coys [Companies] working party at night. 1 K 1 W [1 Killed 1 Wounded]

Wet all day & very miserable, heavy gunning in the morning, nothing much doing all day. Maj Willis rejoins at night.

Fine morning, dull later. Some gunning all day. HdQrs pde [parade] 8.45am for inspection, dirty lot, have to be bucked up.

Move up to join Bttn [Battalion] fine day. Jump 6 Lorries before reaching Bttn at NAVES get there about 4.0pm. Jerry shells a bit at night, but I sleep well.
