Fine day. NCO’s class as usual. Rehearsal for concert in the afternoon & got it off at night, very good indeed, everybody pleased, Tres Bien, I’m glad it’s over.

Fine day, with occasional showers. NCO’s as usual. Rehearsal in afternoon. Whist drive for men at 5.30pm & lecture for NCO’s, but we all get through it & have a very pleasant evening.

Wet again. I take NCO’s Class, have a lecture for 2 hours, in the afternoon rehearsal of concert, but too wet & windy to hold it. Estaminets open again.

Wet day & very windy, nothing much doing. Estaminets put out of bounds for 3 days on account of misbehaviour.

My birthday, very nice day, we have a nice tea out in the field & enjoy it, afterwards have a quiet drink . Sgt Joe Miller comes to see me, he is in the MT ASC [Motor Transport Army Service Corps] looks well.

Wednesday 4 September Wilderness

We get orders to move to Bailleul. I have to go into Schramm Bks [Barracks] for spare kit. Fritz sends a good few over but does very little damage. We get to Bailleul about 4.0pm, very good billet, nice bed & have a nice sleep.
