Every year, on August 24, Ukrainians celebrate breaking free of the Soviet Union in 1991. This year, the occasion takes place 18 months after Russian President Vladimir Putin’s attempt to roll back that freedom with tanks, soldiers and missiles.

On Friday 24 February the Ukrainian flag will be raised at County Hall in Dorchester to mark the one-year anniversary of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.
