Citizen Portal Design Workshop

Citizen Portal design workshop, Elizabeth McEleney Programme Manager presenting to groups of staff

Clinicians, patient representatives, wider advocacy stakeholders and partners joined forces this week for a major workshop to take forward the Dorset Care Record (DCR) Citizen Portal. This was the first occasion for many to have their say on key issues around what should be within the Citizen Portal.

Two cohorts – the Better Births maternity and the cancer follow up pathways – are already being established and have been identified to trial the Citizen Portal due to the frequent interaction and high level of correspondence between service users and clinicians.

The workshop was led by the DCR’s suppliers Orion Health, who demonstrated the potential functionality of the system, which will enable people across the county to log on to their own record.

Among the issues discussed were how to register and get access to the portal, what letters and correspondence should be included in the system; whether information about allergies and medicines should be shown; how radiology and pathology results can be viewed and how shared files can be taken forward.

Ellie Venton, who led the citizen portal workshop, said had been an extremely positive one with plenty of ideas from across the health and social care sectors to develop with Orion Health.
