Piloting myDCR – Our Patient Portal: Mark’s story

Since the summer we have been piloting our patient portal, myDCR, involving more than 200 residents across Dorset, trialling different elements with specific patients. In our final case study of the year, Mark talks about how he has found myDCR and improvements he’d like to see.

Mark first heard about myDCR via an email invite to sign up from his Dorset County Hospital clinician Rebecca, who works at the Dorchester Diabetes Centre.

He was invited to trial the sharing of images and photographs, sent by the podiatry clinic, and found the initial sign-up process was simple to access from the link supplied in the invitation email. Continue reading “Piloting myDCR – Our Patient Portal: Mark’s story”

Automatic publishing of documents available through DCR

We have over the weekend successfully introduced several new features into the Dorset Care Record:

Automatic publishing of documents.

Documents such as inpatient discharge summaries and clinical letters can now be automatically made available to patients in myDCR following the release 9 deployment.  This is important as it is one of the key enablers for rolling out the patient portal (myDCR) to a wider audience.  After the release, the acute hospitals will be able to decide which documents can be published automatically.  It is anticipated that in the first instance, this will include clinic letters for diabetes and rheumatology and results for cancer patients using the remote monitoring service and inpatient discharge summaries. Our Patient Portal – Rolling out the myDCR Pilots

In our latest think-piece, our project manager Theresa Smith outlines the steps taken to create a range of pilots for our patient portal.

Following go-live of my Dorset Care Record (myDCR), the patient portal element of the Dorset Care Record, in March, the next step has been to start rolling out myDCR to specific individuals across the county.

myDCR, though still a work in progress, already supports a wide range of functions, including appointment information, links to additional resources/websites, the ability to share files (photographs, documents, etc.) with clinicians and the option to receive clinic outcome letters electronically rather than through the post. myDCR joins leading patient engagement solutions around the world

Orion Health’s Senior Project Manager Doug Robertson looks at how myDCR will become the firm’s first patient portal in England and highlights some of the benefits arising.

Enabling patient engagement is a key priority for Orion Health. While we work with 60+ shared care records globally, relatively few of these have embarked on digital patient engagement programmes.

It has been a privilege to work with the team at My Dorset Care Record (myDCR), particularly given that it is the first implementation of our patient portal technology in England. myDCR expects to deliver wide-ranging benefits to  both patients and health care staff. “Most people have access to smartphone technology – be it through a mobile, a tablet, a laptop or through a desktop device.

“So we need to make really good use of these type of technologies and be able to put a digital health passport into the hands of our population so that they can contribute to their records and so that we can access services in a different way. Continue reading “How myDCR will empower patients”

Jane Flynn, UHD lead rheumatology practitioner

Rheumatology and myDCR – A Clinician’s perspective

Jane Flynn is a lead rheumatology practitioner at University Hospitals Dorset. In this case study she highlights her work and how myDCR will make a difference to people’s lives

“In the rheumatology department we treat patients with inflammatory arthritis and the myDCR allows photos to be uploaded. For example, an inflamed joint or a rash. This can be shared within the team and with other specialities. It can be monitored over time and we can see changes in your care and modify your treatment because of these.

“The goals section will be able to monitor weight and blood pressure and this will be visible to all professionals. As part of patients ongoing care, we recommend they weight themselves and take their blood pressure. Continue reading “Rheumatology and myDCR – A Clinician’s perspective”

How myDCR will help those suffering from Motor Neuron Disease

Advanced healthcare practitioner coordinator Annemieke Fox’s role at University Hospitals Dorset is to support people with Motor Neuron Disease. Here she talks about her role and how myDCR will benefit clinicians and patients

“My job is to support people with Motor Neuron Disease (MND) and their families from diagnosis  throughout their journey.

“I’m currently using the Dorset Care Record to access information about patients from their community healthcare professionals, which I wouldn’t normally have access to through the hospital records.

“People with MND often have varying levels of disability, which might make accessing their myDCR challenging for them. Continue reading “How myDCR will help those suffering from Motor Neuron Disease”

myDCR highlighted in NHSX blog on a celebration of progress for shared care records

The Dorset Care Record has been showcased in a new blog on the progress of shared care records by NHSX Programme Director Ashley Hannah.

The blog highlights the achievements of shared care records across England over the past nine months but Mr Hannah touches on the  DCR for its work on moving towards our patient portal myDCR.

Mr Hannah wrote: “Secondly, the Dorset Care Record (DCR) which brings together Dorset’s acute hospitals, two local authorities, community and mental health providers and GPs. Three years after accepting its first demographic information, the DCR will soon pilot its patient health record “myDCR”. This will enable people in Dorset to view their record, record and monitor health goals and actions, share data with health and social care professionals and receive clinic letters from hospitals about discharge information and appointments.” Continue reading “myDCR highlighted in NHSX blog on a celebration of progress for shared care records”
