Robots supporting the Dorset Care Record

All of Dorset GPs are being given click through access to the Dorset Care Record (DCR) thanks to an emerging form of business process automation technology based on software robots (bots) or artificial intelligence (AI) workers.

The process – known as Robotic Process Automation (RPA) – has been created by IT specialists at Dorset CCG using a solution from global leader in intelligence automation Blue Prism.

Paul Wyman, RPA architect at Dorset CCG, has been working in automation in Dorset with the NHS since 2012 and says the virtual software robots, which are based in the cloud, can perform a range of jobs. Continue reading “Robots supporting the Dorset Care Record”

Dorset Care Record celebrates new milestones

Patient safety is being increasingly enhanced across Dorset thanks to the growth of the county’s shared health and care record.

More than 40,000 patient records within the Dorset Care Record were viewed during August, enabling professionals to have the most up to date health and social care information.

And more than 3,000 health and social care professionals have now completed the mandatory information sharing and security training, ensuring that the records are used correctly and stored safely. Continue reading “Dorset Care Record celebrates new milestones”

Painting a picture of the Dorset Care Record

Alex May has been producing illustrations for teams across Dorset Council over the past few years. In our latest blog, Alex writes about his work and how he came to produce the diagram for the Dorset Care Record Partnership.

I began to draw “rich picture” process maps some years back (diagrams with images of the “thing” next to the words for the “thing”). I used these to help gain a buy-in and a greater understanding from my customers for pieces of work I was involved with. I worked closely, at the time, with DCR Business Analyst Jayne Catley, who introduced me to this format.

One thing led to another and soon I was producing sketch notes / graphic recording / illustrations regularly for not only my own but Corporate projects. I really enjoy the format and believe in the adage that “a picture speaks a thousand words” ……plus the hope is that, on some occasions, they allow me to avoid writing!

All my illustrations to date have been drawn freehand. This can, however, make the whole process very time consuming and if I mess something up…

Adult social workers benefitting from the Dorset Care Record

In our latest case study, Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole Council’s  Learning and Development officer Debbie Macaulay has been speaking to one of the council’s adult social workers about how they have been using the Dorset Care Record.

“It  is actually a massive help (aspects of huge time saving, accurate information gathering and efficiency) and I have been using DCR since it became available with increasing frequency as more and more detail has become available to view.

DCR Stakeholder Update – July 2021

Our stakeholder update includes our latest news and information on our work over the past six months and looks ahead at some of our future plans.

Our work around community pharmacies recognised nationally

The Dorset Care Record features in the Government’s data strategy, launched by the Department of Health and Social Care this week. The strategy is designed to support delivery of patient centred care with a view of giving them better access and greater control over their health and care data.

We were highlighted for our work enabling community pharmacies to have access to the Dorset Care Record during the first wave of the Covid pandemic last Spring.

The Strategy says our work “enables community pharmacists to access relevant information about patients, which can help pharmacists support management of long-term conditions, preventing future hospital admissions.”

The Government has said there will be a full consultation and further information is available at Data strategy to support delivery of patient centred care – GOV.UK (www.gov.uk)

For the full story go to DCR features in Government data strategy publication – Dorset Care Record (dorsetcouncil.gov.uk)

Marnhull Pharmacy, North Dorset

How one North Dorset pharmacist is using the Dorset Care Record

Community pharmacy professionals have been able to use the Dorset Care Record since the middle of last year, supporting their integration in the county’s health and social care system.

The sector was the first outside the acute and community hospital and social care settings to be given access to the DCR portal and they play a crucial role in supporting patients to make the most of their medicines and manage long-term conditions.

Many pharmacists are using the DCR to care for patients after discharge from hospital or to check blood results to assist with medicines discussions. Continue reading “How one North Dorset pharmacist is using the Dorset Care Record”

Blood tests

Greater understanding of blood test results enhancing patient care

Principal clinical scientist Tanya Hart says the Dorset Care Record is providing people with better quality interpretation of their blood test results than in the past.

Dr Hart, who has been working at University Hospitals Dorset for the past 17 years, says part of her role involved interpreting blood test results and deciding which “abnormal” ones need urgent action and which are satisfactory. Driving up user numbers through communications

University Hospitals Dorset (UHD) Dorset Care Record project support officer Sam Belhomme charts the acute hospital’s progress so far and highlights how a communications strategy to drive up user numbers is paying dividends.

We have spent the last couple of years implementing a number of different components into the Dorset Care Record (DCR): Demographics, Emergency Department encounters, Inpatient admissions, Outpatient attendances, WLM bookings, Radiology reports, Allergies, Clinic Letters, ED Discharge Summaries, Inpatient Discharge Summaries and Single Sign on for staff (phew).

But there is still work to be done. My manager Grant Thompson and I are currently working on putting our Business As Usual processes in place as well as looking at what additional documentation we can start sending into DCR. We are also starting to look at the new Citizen Portal called myDCR and how it can be utilised by patients and staff to enhance care.

Last but by no means least, we are working at UHD to increase our current user base and promote DCR both within the stand alone DCR portal and also via the Graphnet EPR single sign on functionality. Continue reading “Driving up user numbers through communications”
