Push to reach 5,000 trained users by year end

We are nearing our target of having 5,000 trained users across our health and social care partners completing our mandatory training module on information sharing and security by the end of the year.

At present, we are just 400 short and more facilitated sessions for our mandatory module on information sharing and security are planned for this month to boost numbers further.

We have set up a range of videos on our closed you tube channel for staff covering, searching for a patient’s record; discussion to view; how to view a sensitive records; what an opt-out record looks like plus a range of user guides. Continue reading “Push to reach 5,000 trained users by year end”

Digital starter-pack available for potential new health and care users

We’ve produced a digital starter pack for potential tertiary organisations who have contracts with our key partners and may find it useful to have access to our shared care record. We’re delighted that Help & CareAvon and Wiltshire Mental Health Partnership NHS Trust and Age UK North, West and South Dorset are currently benefitting from using our shared care record and several others are pending approval.

The starter-pack contains slides covering background, history, benefits, information currently available in the Dorset Care Record, training requirements and links to further information and support.

It also highlights the information we need to get you started, such as Information Commissioner’s Office registration number, Care Quality Commission accreditation, whether you’re signed up to the Dorset Information Sharing Charter and if you’ve met the Data Protection and Security Toolkit standards.

Do get in touch if you’d like to learn more by contacting our communications and engagement officer Tony McDougal  — tony.mcdougal@dorsetcouncil.gov.uk

Wessex Care Records citizen engagement research

Colleagues at our sister organisation, the Wessex Care Records, want to make sure that people across Dorset and Hampshire and the Isle of Wight understand how their health and care information is shared and have confidence that this is being done safely and securely.

To help to do this, it is carrying out some research on people’s understanding of, and attitudes to, information sharing by health and care services as well as where they prefer to get their information from. Continue reading “Wessex Care Records citizen engagement research”

Derbyshire Shared Care Record

Launching a Shared Care Record – The Derbyshire Experience

In the fourth of our series of webinars, Jane Owens and Charles Frakes from the Derbyshire Shared Care Record talk about Launching a shared care record. The webinar looks at a range of disciples that need to be taken into account, including communications, information governance and privacy issues, reporting structures, clinical safety, benefits realisation, processes and SOPs, the testing regime and future resources such as training.

Tim Smith, Wessex Care Records communications and engagement lead

Sharing patient information across Wessex

In our latest think-piece, Tim Smith, communications manager for Population Health Management Service for the Hampshire and Isle of Wight Integrated Care Board, highlights the ongoing work taking place to join up records across Wessex and writes about the importance of people understanding how their records are shared. His blog include a link to a survey for people to complete on their thoughts of records being shared.

If you are reading the DCR blog, you’ll probably already know that the Dorset Care Record enables sharing of patient information by health and care professionals across the county. You may also know that Hampshire and the Isle of Wight has a similar system called the Care and Health Information Exchange (CHIE).

But ill-health doesn’t recognise lines on a map. If I live in Basingstoke but have an accident on the A35 and get taken to hospital in Bournemouth or live in Dorchester but need to visit a regional specialist unit at Southampton General Hospital, my records can’t currently be shared ‘cross-border’ for my care and treatment. Dorset HealthCare's John Hutchence

Growing the use of the Dorset Care Record – A Partner’s story

One of Dorset HealthCare’s Project Support Officers, John Hutchence, has for the past 4 months been working on finding out what DHC users think of DCR and how to promote the system. In our latest blog, John highlights some of important feedback received and details what is being done to further promote the system.

DCR has been live for several years and statistics regarding use are regularly sent out to partner organisations. The number of trained users within DHC has risen to over 1000, but the number of active users each month has typically been around 20% of this figure.  In mid-February a questionnaire was sent out to all trained users to find out more about how the Trust uses DCR, with a view to increase the figures.
