9th Sept. – TRENCHES

Quiet night & day. Germans fired 3 heavy mortars into “A” Coys trench at 4 am. Our 6” Howitzers retaliated on points where mortar was suspected. Strafe by R.Irish Fus about 8 pm. Returned by enemy with Whizz Bangs on REDAN. Battalion relieved by 1st Kings Own Lancaster Regt. About 8 pm. & Battalion marched to billets at VARENNES. All Battalion in billets by 1.30 am.
