Dorset Care Record annual user survey

 To help us continually look to improve the Dorset Care Record (DCR) for professionals across our health and social care partnership we would be grateful if you could spend 5 minutes filling in our survey. It will allow you to highlight what you like and don’t like about the DCR and what you’d love to see added or changed.

Last year’s survey responses were extremely helpful and allowed us to prove that the system was benefitting both patients and professionals alike.

Your responses from the 2022 survey revealed:

  • 9 out of 10 users said that time was saved using the DCR.
  • Around a third of users successfully reduced the use of paper and therefore avoided some printing costs by using the DCR.

Dorset Council adult alerts added to the Dorset Care Record

Adult alerts from Dorset Council have been added to the Dorset Care Record (DCR) from today.

The new feed will allow GPs and other health professionals to know whether adult social care is involved with a specific patient and in what circumstance, based upon the alert that is now available in the system.

Sharing this type of information can also enable early interventions to prevent the escalation of risk, coordinate effective and efficient responses across our health and social care partnership and prevent abuse and harm that may increase the need for care and support. Additional alerts from DCH available in the Dorset Care Record

Nearly 70 alerts are being added to the Dorset Care Record this week by one of our key health partners, Dorset County Hospital (DCH). The additional alerts, which are being added to an existing feed, include allergy alert types, such as hay fever, latex, house dust, bees and wasps and adhesives, to help increase awareness among clinicians.

Other alerts being added include those around specific medical conditions, including possible cases of tuberculosis and previous pressure ulcer alerts, Munchausen syndrome and mental disorders, child safeguarding and social alerts, such as patient notes, armed forces information and patients who have multiple aliases. Progress of myDCR pilots

Since going live in March, we have completed nine pilots in collaboration with partners at University Hospitals Dorset (UHD) and Dorset County Hospital (DCH).

This has involved the Diabetes, Rheumatology and Motor Neurone Disease teams engaging with more than 800 patients, with over two hundred patients registering for their myDCR account. They have used it to keep track of their appointments, read clinic outcome letters and create a representative for themselves in the My Support Network section of the portal. Automatic document publishing now available through DCR

Over the weekend, we have successfully introduced several new features into our shared care record:

Automatic publishing of documents.

Documents such as inpatient discharge summaries and clinical letters can now be automatically made available to patients in myDCR following the release 9 deployment.  This is important as it is one of the key enablers for rolling out the patient portal (myDCR) to a wider audience.  After the release, the acute hospitals will be able to decide which documents can be published automatically.  It is anticipated that in the first instance, this will include clinic letters for diabetes and rheumatology and results for cancer patients using the remote monitoring service and inpatient discharge summaries.

Patients will be able to access these documents via the patient portal rather than receive a printed copy, saving time and money for the NHS. Continue reading “Automatic document publishing now available through DCR”

A Day in the Life of a Test Nerd

Our test manager Georgina Hulbert gives an insight into life at the heart of the DCR PMO

07:00 Wake-up, school run, coffee, nerdle….. ready to tackle the day as a test nerd as part of the Dorset Care Record (DCR) Programme Management Office (PMO).  For anyone not 100% clear, the definition of ‘nerd’ is – NOUN….a foolish person who lacks social skills or is boringly studious.  Seems a little harsh to me, but I do love testing!

08:30 There are usually some regular tasks to take care of first thing, aided and abetted by the team of brilliant Business Analysts who support the testing.  Monitoring known issues in our test environment for example to try and establish a pattern and fix a problem.   Issues that take time and patience to resolve.  The satisfaction when we achieve a breakthrough is very gratifying. Dorset County Hospital adds new feeds to the DCR

Pre-op assessment data and RMS e-docs have been added into the shared care record by Dorset County Hospital (DCH) this week.

The pre-of information will be useful for other services who may have booked in a patient for surgery to have a baseline of patient’s general health and anaesthetic risks.

The RMS information will provide users with information regarding negative mammograms. DCH also aims for this to be accessible to patients as well in our patient portal myDCR, so they can see their results at the earliest opportunity, without having to wait for the post. Managing COPI – The DCR Approach

As part of the Government’s response to the COVID pandemic a special notice (COPI) was put in place which meant that the training for the Dorset Care Record (DCR) wasn’t mandatory. This meant that we were able to welcome a significant number of additional users to the system in a very short space of time. The COPI notice expired earlier this year and, to try to ensure continuity of access, we have created a process to assure compliance with Information Governance or DCR mandatory training.
