Dorset County Hospital adds new feeds to the DCR

Pre-op assessment data and RMS e-docs have been added into the shared care record by Dorset County Hospital (DCH) this week.

The pre-of information will be useful for other services who may have booked in a patient for surgery to have a baseline of patient’s general health and anaesthetic risks.

The RMS information will provide users with information regarding negative mammograms. DCH also aims for this to be accessible to patients as well in our patient portal myDCR, so they can see their results at the earliest opportunity, without having to wait for the post. Managing COPI – The DCR Approach

As part of the Government’s response to the COVID pandemic a special notice (COPI) was put in place which meant that the training for the Dorset Care Record (DCR) wasn’t mandatory. This meant that we were able to welcome a significant number of additional users to the system in a very short space of time. The COPI notice expired earlier this year and, to try to ensure continuity of access, we have created a process to assure compliance with Information Governance or DCR mandatory training. Ringwood Medical Practice

Ringwood Medical Practice now supplying patient information to the Dorset Care Record

Clinicians at University Hospitals Dorset are now able to access GP data through the Dorset Care Record from the Ringwood Medical Practice in Hampshire. The GP practice, part of the Avon Valley Primary Care Network, is the first cross-border surgery to provide this information.
As well as covering Ringwood, the practice also takes patients from parts of the New Forest, including the surroundings villages of Ibsley, Poulner and Hightown, as well as patients living in the Dorset villages of Ashley Heath and St Leonards.
We are continuing to work with other cross-border GP practices including the Coastal Medical Partnership at New Milton and surgeries on the Wiltshire/Dorset border, such as Sixpenny Handley on the Cranborne Chase.

Growing the use of the Dorset Care Record – A Partner’s story

One of Dorset HealthCare’s Project Support Officers, John Hutchence, has for the past 4 months been working on finding out what DHC users think of DCR and how to promote the system. In our latest blog, John highlights some of important feedback received and details what is being done to further promote the system.

DCR has been live for several years and statistics regarding use are regularly sent out to partner organisations. The number of trained users within DHC has risen to over 1000, but the number of active users each month has typically been around 20% of this figure.  In mid-February a questionnaire was sent out to all trained users to find out more about how the Trust uses DCR, with a view to increase the figures.
