The Dorset Care Record is a good example of how shared care records become more effective as they mature. It has just gone life with a clinical maternity pathway for practitioners and will be considering implementing Orion Health Medicines next year. However, communications and engagement manager Tony McDougal told a recent King’s Fund event that there is more to do.
Large-scale digital care record projects can take time to find their feet. Yet, once they move from “seeing to doing” – from giving clinicians a “view” of information held in different IT systems to using it to actively improve care – they can take off rapidly.
The Dorset Care Record is just at that point. Having spent two years integrating hospital and GP information using the Orion Health Amadeus open platform, it has just gone live with its first pathway: a clinical maternity pathway that will support Dorset’s pioneering Better Births project.

Good afternoon
I am currently work as part of multiagency programme team called Hampshire Together that is currently building a collaborative approach to delivering Integrated Intermediate Care (IIC) across Hampshire. Hampshire Together represents a partnership approach principally between Hampshire County Council and Southern Health NHS Foundation Trust but includes all agencies that support patient flow across the county.
In terms of information sharing – Southern Health already shares views of patient records down to progress note level via the CHIE platform, however, HCC are currently reviewing how best to frame and share their client details via the same platform using a similar approach.
It would be very helpful to learn more about the level of information sharing is currently being achieved by Dorset CC via the Dorset Care Record and at a detail level in order to inform discussions/decisions around what details Hampshire CC should be looking to share in the future via CHIE.
I would be grateful for any support you are able to offer in this matter and/or a key contact who could provide support to this enquiry.
