Over the past few months, usage of the Dorset Care Record (DCR) at Bournemouth Christchurch and Poole (BCP) Council has been growing strongly. We caught up with Carol Bensley, BCP Council Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards (DoLS) business support officer, who accessed the highest number of records across the DCR partnership last month.
Carol is a firm advocate of the DCR: “I absolutely love using DCR; it makes my job so much easier and allows me and my colleagues to work more efficiently. Whether that’s checking which ward a patient is on in hospital, or even just double checking a home address for someone who is currently unknown to BCP – to ensure that they qualify for the services available.
“I check the hospital admissions for patients who have a DoLS several times a day – patients are frequently moved from ward to ward, or even discharged, without us being notified.”
Carol says there are a number of benefits to be had from using the DCR: “This reduces wasted time and phone calls from colleagues who are checking on their welfare and current condition, and allows us to utilise our resources where they are needed most.
“I encourage my colleagues – and also other professionals in the Dorset area – to use DCR. Every single person who has learnt how to use DCR, sees the incredible benefits that it can bring to their work and their team,” she added.
