How our shared care record is used by adult safeguarding triage workers

Gina Orgec completed the DCR training some years ago while working in the adult social work team at Dorset County Hospital.

However, it hasn’t been until recently that she has started using the shared care record more regularly in her current role as an adult safeguarding triage worker for Dorset Council.

“I use it really to check people to see if they have seen their doctor, to get an update on their health needs, and whether they are in hospital. Continue reading “How our shared care record is used by adult safeguarding triage workers”

Dorset Care Record Stakeholder Update – April 2022

Welcome to our latest stakeholder update about progress of the Dorset Care Record and our new patient portal, myDCR.

Growing the Dorset Care Record

More than 76,000 patient records were viewed by health and social care professionals in March, making it the busiest month ever for our shared care record. The figure was nearly 14% per cent higher than in February and meant there were 2,400 records being accessed every day. The number of active users also rose, highlighting the success of our online training around information sharing and security. Nearly 4,000 staff have now completed this training. Benefits baseline established for the Dorset Care Record

Research suggests that the Dorset Care Record (DCR) has enabled efficiency savings of more than £1.4m in the first nine months of the 2021/2 financial year.

As more feeds came into the DCR and usage grew, time savings rose from £333,109 in the first quarter of the year to £586,675 in quarter three, according to the analysis.

It is projected that a total of just under £2m will be saved during the financial year from time savings and consumables, based upon the end of December DCR unique user figures. Continue reading “Benefits baseline established for the Dorset Care Record”

Using the Dorset Care Record to enhance the triage of referrals

In our latest case study, Dorset HealthCare Community Mental Health Nurse Angela Jones talks about how her team use the Dorset Care Record

I work as a Community Mental Health Nurse within a Community Mental Health Team and we support people over the age of 65 who have mental health problems such as dementia, depression, anxiety and schizophrenia.

Most of the referrals to our team come via Primary Care and this is where having access to the Dorset Care Record (DCR) has had the most positive impact on the team’s working practice. In order to process these referrals in a timely manner, DCR allows us to obtain accurate, up to date information from the patient’s health records. Pharmacist David Rose

How a community pharmacist uses the Dorset Care Record during the week

Instant answers to queries is one of the most useful elements of the Dorset Care Record for community pharmacist David Rose.

David, who runs the pharmacy at Marnhull in North Dorset, has been the most extensive user of the shared care record: “The most useful thing is you get answers to queries and you can sort out the problem. Now, you don’t have to come back to it or chase for answers later if someone hasn’t got back to you.

“You can also look for answers to queries you have referred and no reply has been received, which happens fairly often. Continue reading “How a community pharmacist uses the Dorset Care Record during the week”

Community Pharmacies and the Dorset Care Record – Webinar

In the second of our series of webinars, Dorset Local Pharmaceutical Committee chief officer Amanda Moores and Marnhull pharmacist David Rose explore the benefits of using the Dorset Care Record. Webinar: Community Pharmacies and the Dorset Care Record

Come and listen to Amanda Moores, Dorset Local Pharmaceutical Committee (Dorset LPC) chief officer and a community pharmacist David Rose, from Marnhull Pharmacy, in conversation with the Dorset Care Record’s communications and engagement officer Tony McDougal on how community pharmacists are using the shared care record.

Community pharmacies in Dorset have been able to access the Dorset Care Record for the past 18 months, which has prompted national interest.

Among the issues under the spotlight will be encouraging national chains to get involved, how can pharmacists get the most out of share care records and how can we encourage more community pharmacies to get involved.

The free webinar will take place on Monday 28 February from 12.30-1.15pm and is open to all.

Ended care spells changes marks greater understanding of patients across community settings

Clinical software firm TPP has made changes to its national estate allowing Dorset Care Record viewers to see a history of interactions between different services in community settings.

Until now, when a patient’s care spell is ended in a SystmOne community unit, the information was no longer shared and was not visible to clinicians using the DCR. For example, information around a patient who was under a physio team would no longer be shown when they were discharged. If they were previously admitted to Blandford Hospital, it wouldn’t show, but now it does.

The changes will benefit users who frequently look for community interactions, such as social care staff, who will now be able to see historic community spells. Continue reading “Ended care spells changes marks greater understanding of patients across community settings”

Graph showing rise in use of Dorset Care Record

On track for 750,000 views in 2022

We passed a number of milestone in January as the Dorset Care Record saw the largest number of records accessed (67,530) and log-ins ( 61,037).

For the first time, University Hospitals Dorset (covering Royal Bournemouth and Christchurch and Poole Hospitals) had over 40,000 log-ins to the system.

And practitioners at Dorset County Hospital accessed more than 10,000 patient records in January – another first.

Projections based on this month is there to be over 750,000 patient views this year, showing the increasing maturity of our record.
