Dr Craig Wakeham – A DCR Appreciation

Our Working Group yesterday held a minute’s silence for Dr Craig Wakeham, the Chief Clinical Commissioning Officer at NHS Dorset Clinical Commissioning Group, who passed away on Saturday 18 April 2020, aged 59. Craig had tested positive for COVID-19.

We were lucky enough to have the pleasure of working with Craig over the lifetime of the DCR and for some of us, many more years. Craig was one of our Programme Board members and regularly met the team during monthly meetings which were often followed by CCIO sessions at Upton House, Poole.

Frday feedback

Feedback Friday: How training has helped a local authority Occupational Therapist

It’s always great to receive positive feedback on how training can enhance confidence. Here’s some comments from Bournemouth Christchurch and Poole Occupational Therapist Jeremy:

“The reason for me doing the course is to make use of DCR at work, where it will save a lot of time waiting for responses from queries to GP surgeries.

“In this respect, I must be able to use it and understand everything about data protection and information sharing.

“This course provided an excellent start on which to base my use in practice, so I don’t contravene any laws, upset patients or get into serious trouble.”

Yeovil Hospital - now receiving Dorset Care Record feeds

Dorset Care Record provides feeds to Yeovil Hospital staff dealing with Coronavirus

Clinicians and staff working on Coronavirus patients at Yeovil District Hospital (YDH) are for the first time receiving feeds from the Dorset Care Record (DCR).

Until now, Yeovil – which takes 30-40 per cent of their emergency admissions from Dorset Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG) patients – has been unable to access the DCR.

But fast-tracked work due to the spread of the virus means that up to 150 clinicians and staff will now be able to read the GP records of Dorset patients they are providing care for, resulting in less wasted time. In the past, YDH clinicians had to ring Dorset GPs to gather this information.

Functionality, multiple systems and dealing with COVID-19: Our test manager’s view

Our test manager Vinay Gunwant looks at some of the functionality linked to releases in the Dorset Care Record, highlights some of the issues posed in dealing with multiple systems and charts benefits to clinicians during the current COVID-19 pandemic.

I have been part of the Dorset Care Record (DCR) for the past four months and having been involved in the Gloucestershire shared care record (JUYI) I had a fair idea of the interoperability programmes and the potential issues and pitfalls that can affect the programme.

However, each programme has new stakeholders, different systems and suppliers and I felt it was important to get to know the personalities involved with the DCR and re-adjust to working smoothly with them.

Wessex Care Record – Partnership working key to success

Wessex Care Records (WCR) is one of the first Local Health and Care Records (LHCR) programmes in England. Having recently completed its first year with the full team on board and hosted an annual review event for stakeholders, Clinical Lead, Dr Mark Kelsey and Programme Director, Astrid Fairclough reflect on the programme’s progress and future. How Single Sign On can make a difference in an acute hospital setting

Respiratory consultant and general physician at Dorset County Hospital (DCH) William McConnell believes the Dorset Care Record will make a real difference for both healthcare professionals and patients.

Until now, Dr McConnell has felt frustrated by not having information at the touch of a button: “Unfortunately, we’re used to having to apologize to patients due to a lack of information that we have. Patients come expecting us to have all their records and are surprised when we say we don’t. This means that sometimes we don’t always have details, for example, of medications tried in the past.”
